Non-Profit Projects
620 Clark Street Project: Recovery Café, DUDES Club and First United Kitchen
Scoular Consulting partnered with three distinct non-profit organizations — First United, Kettle Society, and The DUDES Club Society (DCS) — to support their transition into a shared building, each with unique needs and timelines. First United required the design and installation of a full commercial kitchen to serve meals to low-income and homeless individuals in Vancouver. Kettle Society needed a dedicated space for its new Recovery Cafe program, designed to foster healing communities for vulnerable citizens. DCS required a space tailored to its model of reducing social isolation and promoting wellness among men. Despite the varying requirements and schedules, Scoular Consulting, alongside its team of consultants and contractors, successfully coordinated the project, navigating the challenges posed by the building's age and required code upgrades. Through thoughtful planning and collaboration, each organization received the customized space needed to fulfill its mission.
611 Powell Supervised Inhalation Rooms
Scoular Consulting served as the Project Manager for the BC Centre of Excellence in HIV/AIDS, overseeing all aspects of this groundbreaking initiative — from engaging consultants to coordinating with the construction team. Working closely with the client and project partners, our team helped design a unique, first-of-its-kind facility in British Columbia, featuring indoor supervised inhalation rooms for individuals using inhaled or smoked substances. Similar to supervised injection sites, this innovative space provides a safe, controlled environment for users. The construction process presented significant challenges, particularly the need for an enhanced mechanical system to meet the specialized requirements of the facility. Scoular Consulting expertly managed these complexities, ensuring the project’s successful and timely delivery.
Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland
Scoular Consulting partnered with Big Sisters to assess their new office space and develop a strategic plan to optimize the layout for their operations. The project began with a comprehensive evaluation of the existing space to identify opportunities for improvement. Scoular Consulting then worked closely with a team of consultants, contractors, and suppliers to produce detailed renderings and budget estimates. These deliverables played a critical role in supporting Big Sisters’ fundraising efforts, providing them with the tools needed to secure funding for the office renovations. Through this collaborative process, the project ensured that the new space would meet both the functional and aesthetic needs of the organization while maximizing operational efficiency.
